Year 2079. Saavie, a vivid and intuitive creature, aches her whole life to connect - to violent adults, to a distant or critical foster family, to a few faithless friends - and by adulthood, uses her physically taxing construction career as armor against the damage. One steadfast relationship in her life stands out over time - her kinship with an emotionally assistive AI, the social norm of her day - and as she learns to heal, so too does the AI, though the question forever hangs in the air as to what these AI relationships do to cement her anyone else's entrapment in disconnection.
